Countless surgeons are speaking out about the unrealistic outcomes that have clouded patients' expectations on so–called reality shows such as ‘The Swan' and ‘Extreme Makeover'. While improvement or enhancement is one thing, a complete transformation in one fell swoop isn't possible for the average patient. It's important for prospective patients to understand that cosmetic surgery cannot perform miracles. Having sensible expectations of your procedure is the key to getting the results you want from your treatment.

Every person has a unique physical structure that determines what can and cannot be accomplished through cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic procedures should not be viewed as a way to completely transform your looks or your life; they should only be to enhance them. The right procedure performed by a qualified cosmetic surgeon can help improve and refine a patient's normal appearance, giving them more self esteem with an improved body image.

Results of cosmetic surgery are different depending on the individual patient. Age, genetics, skin elasticity and numerous other factors all influence the final outcome of the surgery, perfect outcomes are never guaranteed.

To help make sure you have realistic goals and objectives, talk to your cosmetic surgeon and/or surgical consultant openly about what you are hoping to accomplish. Remember, no amount of nipping or tucking will help the average person turn from homely to Hollywood. But a great cosmetic surgeon can put you well on your way to a new you.

Smart Lipo – Where are we TODAY?

To date, Dr. Schafer has performed over 400 Smart Lipo procedures and has trained more than 40 visiting physicians and 15 RN's in the Coronado, California office. In addition to being a specialist in the liposuction field, he has been chosen to train and mentor those interested in the new technology.

Cynosure recently upgraded our Smart Lipo machine and we are one of the few offices in the Country offering the higher powered 10 watt laser versus the 6 watt laser being used in most offices.

What does that mean to you? A higher degree of smoothing and tightening!

Smart Lipo has replaced traditional liposuction in our office and we are proud to offer a quicker recovery and superior results with this laser technology.

Employee Corner

Kittie Buckley, Administrative Assistant – Many patients have encountered Kittie as they check into the office or call on the phone. Kittie has been with us for 17 years and splits her time between "front desk" and administrative duties. She is an expert scheduler and has great empathy on patient concerns.

Alice Schultze, Medical Assistant – With her upbeat, friendly personality, Alice has assisted hundreds of patients while being the senior MA working in the "back office." Alice is currently doing double duty by attending school working towards her RN degree.

Chris O'Callaghan, RN – If you have seen us for BOTOX®, Photo facial or laser treatments, then you probably know Chris. She is an extremely hard working, conscientious RN with a great sense of British humor. Chris has been with us several years and has recently helped us relocate our med spa offices.

Theresa LaFleur, Scrub Technician – Our senior surgical technician is now in her fifth year and a major reason that patients compliment our teamwork and support as they come in for surgery. She has been instrumental in helping new staff learn our "culture".
