Breast Reduction For Men San Diego / Gynecomastia
If you've been hiding under baggy sweatshirts ever since puberty, you don't have to feel ashamed for much longer. Breast reduction for men is a much more common procedure than you might think. Over 40% of men today are affected with Gynecomastia, which translates to "female breast", and is a condition in which firm breast tissue forms in the male. Dr. Schafer is one of the few surgeons to perform this procedure. In our San Diego surgery facilities, Dr. Schafer has performed more than 600 procedures. He has developed unique male breast reduction techniques and teaches them to colleagues at national conferences. He is an expert in this field and has helped hundreds of satisfied patients lead more fulfilled lives. Gynecomastia is a significant source of embarrassment for many men. Reluctant to discuss their concerns, most men are likely to try and hide their condition. Many men avoid the beach, Jacuzzi, pool, sauna and other activities where their chest would be exposed. Once the unwanted breast tissue is removed, the confidence level of most men increases significantly. The most common complaint from the men who have decided to have the unwanted breast tissue removed is, "Why didn't I do this sooner?" To see for yourself, take a moment to look at our photo gallery of other San Diego men who had the procedure. Dr. Schafer may be reached in his San Diego office at this toll free number (888) 377-5187 to answer your questions about breast reduction or to schedule your consultation appointment. Signs of Gynecomastia
Causes of GynecomastiaThis condition is usually caused by changes in the hormone levels. Gynecomastia may occur at puberty or as part of the aging process when the activity of the testes begins to decrease. Gynecomastia is most common during puberty. As many as 65% of 14 year old boys have this condition and 90% of teenage boys have total regression (it completely goes away) in about 18 months to three years without any treatment. Gynecomastia may be caused by changes in the balance of estrogen and testosterone. During puberty, there may be a temporary lag in the production of testosterone behind that of estrogen resulting in breast development. Furthermore, men who are undergoing treatment for prostate or testicular cancer, for example, may be given estrogen as part of their treatment. The majority of theses men receiving estrogen will develop gynecomastia.
Treatment for GynecomastiaDr. Schafer uses MicroLipo® Liposuction to remove and sculpt unwanted breast tissue. Breast tissue does not respond to diet and/or exercise. An incision the size of a grain of rice is hidden on the side of the chest, under the arm. This incision is so small that it requires no sutures and is almost invisible as it heals. The glandular tissue is removed with a liposuction technique. This is done with a special cannula strong enough to break up the breast tissue. This will also remove some of the fatty tissue that surrounds the ductal tissue. Give us a Weekend and we'll give you a new image! |
