What ZERONA Treats

Not all fat in the body is the same, and there are actually two different types of fat cells – subcutaneous and visceral. Subcutaneous fat is located just under the skin and above the skeletal muscle, while visceral fat resides deeper within the body, mostly found around the organs. ZERONA is targeted to treat superficial fat with its laser energy.

During your consultation, the staff at New Image will examine your fat deposits to determine if ZERONA can effectively achieve your desired shape. People with a high volume of visceral fat may still be able to have treatment, but may need to adopt a healthier diet and exercise routine in addition to their laser treatment for the most dramatic results.

Clinical Trials

ZERONA has scientific data to back up its results. In a double-blind, randomized, multi-site, and placebo-controlled study, patients on average lost 3.64 inches in circumference from their waist, hips, and thighs. In addition, individual patients have lost up to 7 inches after treatment. This result is dramatic, especially given that the placebo group lost only a half inch an average. While the mid-body is the most common treatment area and the one that was studied during the clinical trials, Dr. Schafer also can use ZERONA for other parts of the body, including the upper back, arms and neck.

Treatments

Patients at New Image Cosmetic Surgery will have six ZERONA treatments spaced out over two weeks. Each session lasts about 40 minutes, so the procedure can be scheduled over a lunch hour. Treatments are comfortable and you will be able to resume normal activities as soon as you leave the office. ZERONA can be used on its own for completely non-invasive body contouring or can be used as an adjunct treatment during liposuction.
