Beautiful eyes sparkle and shine revealing an inner joy or tranquility. As we age, lose sleep, or spend too much time in the sun, the skin around our eye begins to show signs of damage making us look tired, old and listless. For some people, genetic factures such as bags or excess folds detract from the vitality of the eyes and affect facial expressions. In severe cases, folds and pouches of the eyelids can cause visual impairments. Blepharoplasty, or Eyelid Surgery, can restructure the skin and tissue around the eyes, enhancing natural contours and restoring the vital, expressive, qualities of the eyes.

About Eyelid Surgery:
- By the removal of excess skin and fat on the upper and lower eyelids, blepharoplasty can help to eliminate:
- Saggy eyelids
- Pouches beneath the eyes
- Excess folds around the eyes
- Following natural lines and creases, Dr. Schafer, makes very fine incisions from the inner to the outer edge of the eyelid.
- The upper eyelid is worked on first with the incision made in the fold of the lid.
- On the lower eyelid, the incision is made directly below the eyelash or in the conjunctive (the pink lining of the inner eyelid).
- Excess fat and skin are then removed from the underlying compartments. The amount of fat excised is determined by the degree of protrusion of fat when pressure is, gently applied to the area.
- Small sutures are used to close the incision.
